 Vox News Website Review  

 

I have chosen to analyse the website of Vox news as its style appeals to me. I think the website is very professional and sleek. The space is not too crowded, with plenty of white space within the website which keeps things clear and almost allows the reader to ‘think’. White space is a great tool to balance design elements and better organize content to improve the visual communication experience (Soegaard, 2018).  

 

There is also a strong use of the colour yellow throughout the house style of the website. I like how Vox have used this colour as it is bright and draws attention to the key elements of the page. Yellow also carries the connotations of optimism, joy, and energy (Wróblewska, 2013). Although optimism and joy are not present in many of the news stories the colour makes the page feel welcoming and engaging.  

 

There are also useful links to videos and the Vox podcast which is essential to keep the readers engaged with all of Vox’s content. I also found that much like most other news platforms Vox uses an inverted pyramid structure, descending in order of importance (Roberts, 2016), showing the most important news stories first before moving down to other stories in order of their importance and relevance.
