Lighting
and Set Design Mood Board
For the
shoot I would like to use warm lights to create a comfortable environment and
atmosphere. The scene revolves around characters opening up about their ideas
of life after death so an environment which makes people comfortable will allow
for vulnerability.
I may also
use ambient lights e.g., lamps as these create interesting visual points and are
useful ways to hide the use of hot lamps.
I want to
use shadows in the piece to symbolise the ‘dark side’ of the characters but
also the hidden suffering of the characters. I also think this will be an
interesting choice as the subject is ‘taboo’ and people do not like discussing death.
I want the
scene to have a homely/ cosy feel and be set in a natural environment which is
a familiar space for both the characters and viewers. The lighting choices
mentioned previously will help me achieve this.
Cinematic/Shot Type Mood Board
The shot types
I would like to use range from long shots to close ups. I will also get a
variety of two shots, single shots, over the shoulder shots etc. There will be
no major camera movements e.g., track but I would like to do a slight pan and slow
zooms in when actors are expressing emotions.
I would like
to frame the characters in single shots to connote the distance between the
characters and their views. I would also like to use negative framing in these
shots to create an uncomfortable environment as Riley does not want to open up,
but he is pressured to by Erin. Eventually he choses to open up and I want the
camera to slowly pan round to remove the negative framing.
As they
begin to open up to one another more I want to use close ups to connote
intimacy. I also want to use two shots and interior/exterior shots to show them
coming together.
I am also going
to block actors so they physically move closer to one another, lean forward or
move up on the sofa.
