Mood Boards

Mood Boards Lighting and Set Design Mood Board For the shoot I would like to use warm lights to create a comfortable environment and atmosphere. The scene revolves around characters opening up about their ideas of life after death so an environment which makes people comfortable will allow for vulnerability. I may also use ambient lights e.g., lamps as these create interesting visual points and are useful ways to hide the use of hot lamps. I want to use shadows in the piece to symbolise the ‘dark side’ of the characters but also the hidden suffering of the characters. Director Presentation

Director Presentation I set out to create a warm tone to the piece by using a variety of practical lights and LED lights using tungsten filters. I also aim to have a focus on close up shots with some negative framing to help drive the story forward and build emotion and intensity.

Director Styles Mike Flanagan Mike Flanagan is a well-known writer and director within the horror genre. He has directed many films and TV shows such as: Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Gerald’s Game (IMDb, n.d.). Flanagan’s approach to the horror genre makes it feel personal as he began to make a form of horror which chilled the bones and inspired people to rekindle relationships with family members (King, 2021). Flanagan tries to infuse his adaptations with aspects of his own life. In “The Haunting of Hill House” Flanagan includes his own experiences with death within his extended family and includes specific imagery from his life (King, 2021). “Midnight Mass” is claimed to be Flanagan’s most personal work which is inspired by his own persistent fixations, as well as his experience with religion and addiction. The series interrogates theology and faith (King, 2021). The ending of “Midnight Mass” feels like the culmination of a larger...
